Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir, has once again
assured Nigerians that the problem of youth unemployment in the country may
soon become a thing of the past.
In an interview he granted to the Nigerian Tribune, the minister remarked that government was involved in a number of training programmes with the assistance of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for the Nigerian youth across the country to turn them into self-employed persons and employers of labour within a short time.
He also noted that government was already assisting the trainees
with necessary funds; he said such entrepreneurial programmes, especially in
agriculture-related businesses, would enable the youth to acquire knowledge in
agricultural produce production, processing and marketing.
His words: “that is why you see that in all what we do we tend to
direct the minds and thinking in terms of training, in terms of orientation,
for Nigerian youth to become an employer. For instance, the issue of agro
entrepreneurialship scheme training which we have been providing through the
assistance of MDGs office and other programmes in collaboration with other
organisations.
“We provide these training basically for both graduates and
non-graduates including rural young women so that they will be involved in
agricultural business which is an integrated agricultural scheme. That is the
kind of training from both the primary agricultural production up to its processing
and up to marketing.
